Apply for this position

Our mission is to help schools succeed. We are looking for a full-stack Software Engineer who shares our focus on building great products and creating the best experience for our schools and the communities they serve.

About you (Requirements)
  • You have either:
    • A Computer Science degree with some software development work experience (e.g. internship)
    • At least 3 years of object-oriented development work experience
  • You are interested in full stack development, from JavaScript to DevOps
  • You reside anywhere in the United States
  • You do not require visa sponsorship

Your role
  • Identify and develop solutions that deliver the best possible user experience while writing easily-maintainable code
  • Engage in the entire software lifecycle from writing or improving requirements to automated deployments.
  • Contribute to application architecture designs, peer review code, and champion continuous improvements
  • Take proactive action to identify and resolve problems before they impact users
  • This position is 100% remote, no office visits or travel will be necessary.  Communication will primarily be via Slack, Jira, and Zoom.  For candidates in Austin or Glastonbury, you have the option to work in our office as well.

Why work on SchoolAdmin at Finalsite?
  • A pleasant place to work, and with a company and manager that care about having a great work environment.
  • A team where ideas for improvement are actively sought, always well received, and routinely implemented.
  • A software development process designed by engineers, not consultants or talking heads.
  • Continuous integration and deployment, with many customer-transparent releases happening every day.
  • No favoritism on project assignments, everyone pulls from the one queue.  You'll never be pigeonholed into one area of the code.
  • An emphasis on eliminating, streamlining, or automating every part of the job that isn't architecture, coding, or review.  You're going to spend a lot of time coding.
  • A well tested codebase that allows you to make changes with confidence, and see them go live the same day.
  • No blockers caused by other teams, as this team owns all of our systems.
  • No deadlines, your project is done when it's done right.  We don't create new technical debt.
  • Everyone pulls their weight.
  • Flexible schedules and vacation time.
  • Optional team social opportunities every week.
  • An average of 1 meeting per week, and it's probably going to be technical.
  • A profitable, stable, mid-size company.
  • A team motto of "Do what makes sense."
  • No drama.  We just get things done.

Our technology - SchoolAdmin Platform
Our platform is built upon Ruby on Rails, React, MySQL, MongoDB, and SOLR, as well as many supporting technologies like Docker and Terraform.  We're hosted in AWS.

We do not require direct experience with all of our current technology stack, as helpful as that may be.  Technology is ever-changing, we are more interested in how you use your skills and experience to solve real problems, along with a capacity to identify what new technology and methodologies make sense to evolve the current state towards.  We don’t believe in knowledge silos, and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to learn and broaden your skills.
